There is a reason you have heard this statement so many times - because it is true!
All of the structures and functions of the human body are built from and run on nutrients. This means that nutrients are the fundamental building block for the body, it's cells, organs, structures and systems. This is why what you eat matters, but also why optimal digestion is essential because you are also what you can break down efficiently and absorb throughout the various stages of digestion.
Functional Nutrition Therapy takes a unique approach to health and wellness, using a whole foods nutrient dense diet as a basis and supporting foundations like blood sugar regulation, digestion, hydration, fatty acids and mineral balance to help bring the body back into balance.
We use a food first approach, based on ancestral traditions and supported by the latest research, to tailor nutrition, targeted therapeutic nutrient supplementation and lifestyle changes to the individual. This bio-individual approach is key to meeting people where they are at and moving them towards their health and wellness goals.
As your guide on this journey towards a healthier you there are some things Functional Nutrition Therapy Practitioners do differently.
STEP 1: As a starting point, we take an extensive review of your health history coupled with a nutritional assessment and review of a food and mood journal. This gives us the starting point, so we can see where the body may need support and strategies to help with your health and wellness concerns.
STEP 2: From here, we will work up recommendations and a program that suits your needs, and it will involve regular check-ins over time as you start to change your life in a nourishing direction. We have some amazing tools for tracking your progress and diving deeper into your unique picture of health.
STEP 3: Our recommendations will be based around food and lifestyle changes that you can make, stressors that you can reduce and therapeutic grade supplements which may assist the body whilst you are making the necessary changes.
STEP 4: We have regular check-ins as you progress over time towards your health and wellness goals. I use clinical tools and assessments like the Functional Clinical Assessment and the Nutritional Assessment to benchmark your progress and readjust your strategy, but ultimately I rely on open communication with you to move at your pace.
Please remember that health and wellness is a journey you commit to each and every day. This is why even small changes over time can have a profound compounding effect on the body, as your identity starts to shift into a healthier version of you - so be patient with yourself and commit to the process.
Finally, the fundamental goal of Functional Nutritional Therapy is to encourage you to become knowledgeable about—and responsible for—your own health. So, part of my role is teaching you about the body, how it works and empowering you to feel into what your body is trying to tell you through signs and symptoms.
